A Tractor Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining agricultural tractors and related machinery used in farming operations. The role supports essential field activities such as soil preparation, cultivation, planting, harvesting, transportation, and general farm maintenance.
The work may include operating tractors with ploughs, cultivators, harrows, seeders, trailers, mowers, sprayers, and other approved agricultural attachments. Operators are expected to follow farm schedules, work carefully around crops and other workers, and use machinery according to workplace safety procedures.
Daily responsibilities may also involve preparing machinery before operation, checking fuel and fluid levels, inspecting tires and attachments, carrying out basic cleaning and routine maintenance, identifying minor mechanical problems, and reporting faults or maintenance requirements to the farm supervisor.
Tractor Operators may work across crop fields, orchards, plantations, nurseries, and other agricultural properties. The position can involve long periods of outdoor work, varying weather conditions, uneven ground, extended driving, and physically demanding farm activities when machinery is not being operated.
Previous experience operating agricultural tractors or similar farm machinery is highly valuable. Knowledge of basic farm machinery, safe equipment handling, field operations, and routine maintenance can be an advantage. Depending on the employer and local regulations, a valid driving or machinery operation licence may also be required.
The position requires concentration, responsibility, good awareness of surroundings, careful machinery handling, and the ability to follow instructions from farm managers and supervisors.
